5-star kicker and Pennsylvania product Sander Sahaydek commits to Penn State football

Penn State football picked up a commitment from a kicker Wednesday afternoon. Sander Sahaydek announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions via his personal Twitter account.

Sahaydek was one of two recruits to commit to Penn State Wednesday afternoon, joining four-star quarterback Christian Veilleux. The kicker is not rated by the 247Sports Composite rankings, but is a five-star recruit and the No. 1 kicker in the country according to Kohl’s Kicking.

He’s currently listed at 6-foot-2 and 160 pounds on his 247Sports recruiting profile, and goes to Liberty High School in Bethlehem. The high school junior received a scholarship offer on April 18 and only took 11 days to commit to the home-state university. He also had scholarship offers from Army and Rutgers.

Sahaydek is the first scholarship specialist to commit to the Nittany Lions out of high school since current kicker Jake Pinegar committed in the class of 2018.

His Kohl’s Kicking profile commended his leg strength.

“He has special leg speed and is very coordinated,” the report on his profile read. “He stood out at the Underclassman Challenge in both charting and in the competitions. His field goal height off the ground is D1 ready right now. Sahaydak can still improve technically and should be an early offer player from a Power Five school. His ability to hit field goals from 55-65 yards away make him different than others in his class.”

Sahaydek’s addition to the class doesn’t affect its ranking on the 247Sports Composite team rankings because he has yet to be rated. The class remains the No. 14 in the country and sixth in the Big Ten rankings.
