Penn State football announces new leaders of strength and conditioning program
Penn State football has announced a new leader of its strength and conditioning staff after the program announced earlier this month that Dwight Galt III will be retiring.
Galt will be replaced by Chuck Losey III as the program’s head strength and conditioning coach, who will have the official title of assistant AD, performance enhancement – football.
The athletic department also announced the promotion of Rhian Davis to assistant AD for performance enhancement – Olympic sports, composing the other half of the role Galt previously had overseeing all of athletics’ strength and conditioning programs.
Losey and Galt have worked together for 10 seasons, dating back to when Penn State head coach James Franklin first became a head coach at Vanderbilt.
Galt was the head of Franklin’s strength and conditioning programs since 2011. He’s helped many players go on to the NFL from Penn State after testing well and developing as athletes, including Saquon Barkley, Mike Gesicki and Chris Godwin. Prior to his time with Franklin, Galt ran Maryland’s strength and conditioning program from 1993-2011.
Losey was Tennessee State University’s director of speed, strength and conditioning for six years from 2004-2010. Prior to that, he started 32 games at Vanderbilt as a defensive end from 1998-2002.
The program also announced the rest of the strength and conditioning staff for football. Alvin Futrell is the new associate director of performance enhancement, a role formerly held by Losey, while Jeff Earls, Jon Fleury and Tyrone Smith hold the role of assistant director of performance enhancement. Fleury has the added title of coordinator of performance science.
