Penn State WR Parker Washington to miss rest of season due to undisclosed injury
Penn State will be without its leading receiver for the rest of the season.
Parker Washington will miss the rest of the year with an undisclosed injury, according to head coach James Franklin.
“I did have that conversation with him and his mom,” Franklin said Tuesday during his weekly press conference. “... Wanted to cover that with him first.”
Washington leads the Nittany Lions in receptions and receiving yards despite missing last week’s game against Rutgers due to the injury. He finishes the season with 46 receptions for 611 yards and two touchdowns and had begun to come on for Penn State before suffering the injury.
The third year receiver has two years of eligibility remaining thanks to the extra year players received due to the 2020 COVID-altered season.
He has registered at least 400 receiving yards in all three years on campus, totaling 146 receptions for 1,920 yards and 12 touchdowns in that time. His biggest game as a Nittany Lion came this season when he lit up the Ohio State Buckeyes for 179 yards and a touchdown on 11 catches.
In his career he’s totaled 24 catches for 360 yards and a touchdown in his three games against Ohio State.
Without Washington, Penn State will have to rely on Mitch Tinsley, KeAndre Lambert-Smith and a host of young receivers to step up. Tinsley led the way with five catches for 63 yards against Rutgers Saturday and Harrison Wallace III pitched in another three catches for 49 yards in the game.
