Penn State’s White Out game is stuck on Peacock, but you can catch it at select theaters

Although Penn State’s White Out game is stuck on a streaming platform this season, some fans can catch the beloved spectacle in an unusual venue.

Nearly two dozen IMAX movie theaters across the country will screen the No. 6-ranked Nittany Lions’ showdown with the University of Washington at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. According to a media release, the screening event will mark the first-ever college football game presented live in IMAX formats.

Here’s what you need to know if you hope to catch Penn State’s White Out on the big screen or at home through NBC’s Peacock streaming platform.

Where can I watch the White Out in IMAX?

Six theaters in Pennsylvania — located in Pittsburgh, Reading, York, Bensalem, Center Valley and King of Prussia — will screen Penn State’s White Out game in IMAX. Seven theaters in Washington will also air the game, joining a few more IMAX facilities scattered across New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Florida, California, Illinois and Maryland.

Tickets are available online at IMAX.com/whiteout through Fandango. Prices may vary by theater, but base rates for individual tickets in King of Prussia start at about $25 for adults, $23 for seniors and $22 for children.

Though the White Out marks the first college football game streamed in IMAX, it isn’t the first sporting event to get the treatment. Theaters across the country streamed the opening ceremony for the 2024 Paris Olympics earlier this year.

IMAX theaters are known for their large screens, steep stadium seating and immersive sound systems. As of June, nearly 1,800 IMAX systems are operational across 89 countries and territories.

Do I need a subscription to watch Penn State-Washington?

Yes. Just like last season’s matchup against the University of Delaware, Penn State’s contest against Washington will exclusively stream on Peacock. Unless you’re watching on at an IMAX theater, you’ll need to tune in through Peacock to see a live stream of the game.

Peacock’s basic plan, dubbed “Premium,” starts at $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. The more expensive “Premium Plus” plan, which removes advertisements and enables downloads and offline streaming, starts at $13.99 per month or $139.99 annually. Both plans should provide access to Saturday’s exclusive stream.

College students are eligible for Peacock’s student discount, which offers a year’s worth of Peacock’s basic plan for $1.99 per month. Visit PeacockTV.com/student to sign up.

Previously, some cable plans included Peacock at no additional cost, but those offers are no longer available. Some workarounds are still up for grabs, however, including through Instacart+. The subscription-based grocery delivery service provides Peacock access as a benefit for subscribers and even those who have signed up for a two-week free trial.

Peacock is available for streaming through most devices, including Apple and Android smartphones, computers, video game consoles and smart TVs. A full list of supported devices and their required specs is available online.

Peacock customers can cancel their plans at any time, the service says in its terms. If you plan on signing up for Big Ten football alone, you could subscribe for just a week or a month before canceling to save money.

Penn State-Washington broadcast info

No. 6 Penn State (7-1, 4-1 Big Ten) will host Washington (5-4, 3-3 Big Ten) at 8 p.m. Saturday at Beaver Stadium. The Nittany Lions enter the matchup following yet another close loss to conference rival Ohio State, while the Huskies hope to win their second straight game after defeating the University of Southern California at home.

Local radio coverage for the game is available through 99.5 FM, 103.7 FM and 1450 AM. You can find a digital stream on channel 196 through SiriusXM, plus a university-run stream through Penn State’s LionVision.

Penn State’s face-off against Washington pits the two teams against each other for the first time since the 2017 Fiesta Bowl, which produced a 35-28 win for the Nittany Lions. Penn State leads the all-time series 3-0 with additional wins over Washington in 1983 and 1921. The two teams should match up more often after Washington, the University of Oregon, the University of Southern California and the University of California Los Angeles joined the Big Ten conference this season.

The White Out game should draw a near record-breaking crowd to Beaver Stadium, and prices for the area’s dwindling supply of hotel rooms are through the roof. Penn State’s stadium set a new all-time attendance record when 111,030 fans showed up as the Nittany Lions faced Ohio State Nov. 2.
