Penn State QB Beau Pribula to enter transfer portal, won’t play in College Football Playoff
Penn State will lose its backup quarterback ahead of the College Football Playoff. Multiple sources told the Centre Daily Times that quarterback Beau Pribula will enter the transfer portal.
He will not be on the roster for the College Football Playoff, per a source with knowledge of the situation.
He confirmed the news with a post on the social media platform X., formerly Twitter, and added clarity on his reasoning.
“Growing up in Pennsylvania, it has always been a dream of mine to play football for Penn State. Wearing the blue & white these last 3 years has brought me some of the greatest moments of my life,” Pribula’s post said. “The current NCAA post-season model creates a challenge for student-athletes. The overlapping CFB playoff & transfer portal timeline has forced me into an impossible decision. After speaking at length with my family and coaches, it is with a heavy heart that I announce my intentions to enter the transfer portal and depart from the team to explore opportunities elsewhere.”
Pribula was the Nittany Lions’ backup to quarterback Drew Allar but played a role all season. He completed 26 of his 35 passing attempts for 275 passing yards and five touchdowns while only throwing one interception in 2024. He also ran 38 times for 242 yards and four touchdowns this season.
True freshman quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer is positioned to back up Allar with Pribula leaving.
The Nittany Lions will face SMU at Beaver Stadium Saturday for the first round of the College Football Playoff. The game will kick off at noon.
