Here’s where Penn State football sits in the AP top 25 after win over Nevada
Penn State held steady in the first regular season edition of the 2025 AP top 25 poll.
The Nittany Lions came in at No. 2 in the poll that was released Tuesday at 2 p.m., missing the No. 1 spot by 78 voting points while earning seven first-place votes.
They took care of business over the weekend, dominating the Nevada Wolf Pack, 46-11, to move to 1-0 on the season. And they’re likely to keep that rolling this weekend when they take on FIU at Beaver Stadium — and again the following week when they play Villanova at home.
The Nittany Lions’ first ranked matchup this season is likely to come on Sept. 27 when they take on Oregon (currently No. 6) in the White Out at night in Beaver Stadium.
They will face plenty of other competition in the Big Ten as they look to rise to No. 1 this season in pursuit of a national title.
There were five other Big Ten schools ranked in the first in-season iteration of this year’s poll — Ohio State (No. 1), Oregon (No. 6), Illinois (No. 11), Michigan (No. 15) and Indiana (No. 23). The Nittany Lions will play three of those teams this year, with matchups against the Ducks, Buckeyes (Nov. 1) and Hoosiers (Nov. 8). Another Penn State opponent, Nebraska (Nov. 22), was outside the poll but received 13 voting points.
Penn State’s 1,558 voting points put them 44 ahead of No. 3 LSU.
