WATCH: Penn State coach Matt Campbell talks signing day, player additions
Matt Campbell has been a busy coach the last two months.
Penn State’s newest head coach was officially hired Dec. 8 and, since then, he’s assembled a staff, solidified a recruiting class and gone back-and-forth with transfers. And, on signing day Wednesday, he held a press conference at the Beaver Stadium media room to go over it all:
It hasn’t been a smooth road early on. Campbell, whose previous stop was with Iowa State, inherited a two-member recruiting class with one of the nation’s worst rankings when he first took over. But he’s since built it up with 15 freshman signees and 40 transfers, about two dozen of whom are from Iowa State.
Some key PSU players have decided to transfer themselves — such as safety King Mack (N.C. State) and quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer (Virginia Tech) — as this offseason looms as the most important in more than a decade. Can the Nittany Lions overcome the overhaul and rebound from a disappointing 2025? Is Campbell the coach that Happy Valley has been waiting for?
