How will Penn State’s West Campus Parking Deck construction impact wrestling fans?

As work begins on Penn State’s six-level West Campus Parking Deck, wrestling fans might have to find a new place to park for the remainder of the Nittany Lions’ 2019-20 home season.

In an advisory issued Thursday by Penn State Transportation Services, the university announced that 275 Red A parking spaces have been permanently closed due to the construction. Fans are encouraged to arrive as early as possible to park at Red A and the Nittany Parking Deck. If both reach capacity, attendees are asked to park at the Eisenhower Parking Deck.

Parking will be available 90 minutes before matches starts and end 90 minutes after all have concluded. A ticket or permit will not be required to park at the Eisenhower Deck.

Despite some public concern, the proposed $60.57 million West Campus Parking Deck plan was approved by Penn State’s board of trustees in November and will be built on the existing Red A parking lot. Once complete, the deck will provide 1,653 spaces for faculty, staff and students.

The project includes two CATA bus stops, a bus turnaround, a bicycle repair shop on the ground floor, roof design for solar panels, extension of White Course Drive and expanded storm water basin to accommodate the planned West Campus College of Engineering buildings.

Penn State’s next home dual meet is set for 7 p.m. Jan. 10 against Illinois.
