Penn State wrestling loses commitment from Mifflin County’s Trey Kibe

After verbally committing less than a month ago, Mifflin County wrestling standout Trey Kibe announced his decommitment from the Nittany Lions.

Kibe, who’s coming off a fourth-place finish at the PIAA Class 3A wrestling championships, made the announcement Tuesday evening on social media.

“I have decided to de-commit from Penn State University.. I will be taking some time to thoroughly reconsider my future plans,” he wrote.

Kibe, who was ranked No. 2 at 170 pounds at the time of his commitment, is now ranked ninth by FloWrestling and 11th by InterMat after his PIAA performance. Michigan product Alex Facundo is ranked No. 1 by both rankings sites at the same weight class. Facundo committed to the Nittany Lions on Feb. 7.

When he initially committed, Kibe told the Centre Daily Times his decision was based on the legacy of Penn State wrestling and its resources.

“I think they have some of the best coaches in the world on staff,” he said on Feb. 16. “Being part of a team like that, that I can chase my own goals of national titles and be part of a team that chases those goals.”

Kibe split matches this season with the St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy’s Tyler Stoltzfus, the Class 2A PIAA champ at 170 pounds,

who’s committed to Lock Haven. Stoltzfus finishes the season ranked No. 2 nationally at 170 by InterMat
