Bald Eagle QB Garrett Burns is the Centre Daily Times’ Athlete of the Week for Sept. 14-20

Editor’s note: The Centre Daily Times will publish a weekly poll on Monday mornings for readers to choose the high school Athlete of the Week for the previous week of competition. The winner will be announced on Sundays. Check for the poll at CentreDaily.com.

The Centre Daily Times athlete of the week from Sept. 14-20 has been determined by our readers. Bald Eagle Area quarterback Garrett Burns earned the honor with 45.8% of the vote in the poll that ran from Monday to Friday on CentreDaily.com.

The junior had a big game to lead Bald Eagle to its first win of the season. Burns and the Eagles defeated the Huntingdon Bearcats, 46-8.

He produced in the air and on the ground as he led his offense to over 40 points. He finished the game with 78 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries, while completing 13 of his 28 pass attempts for 249 passing yards and two touchdowns. Burns’ performance was key in the Eagles’ blowout victory, and he’ll be tasked with leading the Bald Eagle offense this season as it follows last year’s team, which made the program’s first trip to the state semifinals.

Burns was one of five options in the poll, and finished in first by 9 percentage points more than the second-place finisher.

Check back Monday for the athlete of the week poll for Week 3 of the Centre County fall sports season.
