Here’s what happened from March 28-31:
baseball
Bellefonte vs. BEA: Bellefonte shut out Bald Eagle Area 7-0 on Monday. The shut-out effort was led by starting pitcher Seth Shuey, who recorded the win. Shuey allowed two hits and no runs over six and two-thirds innings while striking out 10. Dylan Dann threw one-third of an inning in relief to finish out the game. The Red Raiders recorded eight hits in the game. Trevor Johnson led the team in RBIs with two. Noah Williamson was on the mound for the Eagles, surrendering four runs on four hits over six-and-a-third innings, striking out seven. Alex Gavlock pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief. Gavlock and Trey Foster recorded the Eagles’ two hits.
Penns Valley: Penns Valley beat Huntingdon 15-0 in three innings in its season opener on Tuesday.
P-O: Philipsburg-Osceola opened its season with a 15-7 win over DuBois on Tuesday. Pitcher Ryan Whitehead picked up the win, allowing two hits and striking out six. Nathan Gustkey went 3 for 3 with a home run.
State College: State College lost 3-0 in its season opener to Central Dauphin.

Bellefonte boys’: Bellefonte lost 9-4 to Lewisburg on Monday.
State College girls’: State College beat Cumberland Valley 12-8 on Tuesday. Leah Moyer led the Little Lions in scoring with four goals, while Maddie Tambroni added two goals and two assists.
softball
State College: State College fell 6-5 to Central Mountain in its season opener on Monday. The Little Lions had a 5-1 lead after the third, but a big fifth inning put the Wildcats within one. They took the lead with two more runs in the sixth. State College’s Logan Soltis hit a three-run home run, finishing the game with four RBIs. Olivia Herncane recorded an inside-the-park home run and and RBI. Zia Bodnar took the loss for the Little Lions.
Penns Valley: Penns Valley topped Huntingdon 15-0 in three innings on Tuesday. Kendra Bumgardner pitched a no-hitter with nine stikeouts and a walk. The Rams recorded 12 hits in the outing.
BEA vs. Bellefonte: Bald Eagle Area won its season opener 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel with rival Bellefonte. Maddie Peters recorded the win for the Eagles, allowing four hits, two walks and striking out nine over seven innings. Lexi Rogers pitched the complete game for the Red Raiders, allowing three hits, a walk and striking out 10. Meghan King hit the game-winning run for the Eagles, hitting in Ava Steere in the fourth.
P-O: Philipsburg-Osceola lost its season opener 4-0 to Mountain League foe Clearfield on Tuesday.
State College: State College beat Central Dauphin 7-2 on Tuesday.
boys’ tennis
State College: State College beat Mechanicsburg 5-0 last week. The Little Lions swept all three singles matches (Daniel Xu(SC) def. Will Johnston 6-1, 6-2, David Chong(SC) def. Ben McCrea 6-0, 6-0 and Josh Davis(SC) def. Evan Davis 6-1, 6-2), and both doubles matches (Matt Labosky/Jerry Zhang(SC) def. Gabe Fatzinger/Andrew Weatherhold 6-1, 6-4 and Luke Shaha/Kueyoung Kim(SC) def. Will Gavin/Colin Flack 6-2, 6-1).

P-O boys’: Philipsburg-Osceola beat Huntingdon (95-55) on Tuesday. State College girls’: State College opened its season against Central Dauphin on Tuesday. Penns Valley boys’: Penns Valley lost 101-48 to Tyrone in its season opener. Winning for the Rams were: Thad Smith (1,600-meter run); Brendan Colwell (3,200-meter run); Micah Good (400-meter dash) and the 4X800 relay team of Simon Smith, Dan Kelly and Colwell.
Penns Valley girls’: Penns Valley beat Tyrone 72-68 in its home opener on Tuesday. Winning for the Rams were: Kelsey Hull (1,600-meter run); Jaydan Velasquez (300-meter hurdles); Anna Stitzer (800-meter run); Alexis Durn (3,200-meter run); Ava Reeder (discus); the 4x800-meter relay team of Abby Stitzer, Durn, Hull and Anna Stitzer; and the 4x400-meter relay team of Leah Beben, Abby Stitzer, Hull and Anna Stitzer.
boys’ volleyball
State College: State College lost 3-0 (25-21, 25-16 and 25-10) to Central Dauphin on Tuesday. Central Dauphin is ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 3A by the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association.
wrestling
Mid Penn Conference: In addition to four Little Lions being named to All-Conference teams, State College wrestling was also the winner of the Mid Penn’s Sportsmanship Award for the Commonwealth Division.
