Kalista Butler, Philipsburg-Osceola
Philipsburg-Osceola volleyball is on a mission to avenge its PIAA Class 2A championship loss from last year, tearing through the postseason. This week, the Mounties, ranked No. 1 by the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association, dispatched No. 5 Avonworth in three sets and No. 4 Harbor Creek in four to earn a trip to Tuesday’s semifinals. Just as she was last year, Butler has been crucial to the Mounties’ success. Against Avonworth on Tuesday, she tallied 36 assists, 13 service points and 2 aces. She then racked up 48 assists and 10 service points in P-O’s quarterfinal win over Harbor Creek.
Jashaun Green, State College
Green had yet another standout performance for State College football, helping his team to a 17-14 victory over Williamsport in the District 6 Class 6A championship on Friday. Green rushed for a 31-yard touchdown, following a long opening to drive, to get the Little Lions on the board, 7-0, at 9:33 on the clock in the first quarter, giving his team the early advantage. Green played at both running back and wide receiver against the Millionaires, hauling in several catches for first downs.
Reese Hazelton, Philipsburg-Osceola
Even though she’s just a sophomore, Hazelton has already made her name known across the state as a force in high school volleyball. She continues to post impressive stats, with 27 kills and 2 blocks against Avonworth and 28 kills, three blocks, 16 digs, 13 service points and seven aces against Harbor Creek in the PIAA quarterfinal.
JW Scott, State College
Scott had a momentum-shifting play in the first half of State College’s 17-14 District 6 win when he scooped up a fumbled snap by the punter. Scott put the Little Lions on the Williamsport 2-yard line and Brady Bendik punched the ball in for a touchdown with 7:51 left in the first quarter. That touchdown gave the Little Lions a 14-0 lead heading into the half.
