Poll results: Philipsburg-Osceola football player selected as CDT Boys Athlete of the Week
Philipsburg-Osceola football’s Jakodi Jones is the winner of the latest Centre Daily Times high school boys athlete of the week poll, as selected by readers of CentreDaily.com.
Jones had seven carries for 56 rushing yards and a touchdown on offense and two tackles on defense in Philipsburg-Osceola’s 42-13 loss to Bald Eagle on Oct. 7. He had 47% of the vote (13,882 votes) in the poll.
Here were the other nominees for the week of Oct. 4-11:
Andrew Ream, Bald Eagle boys soccer: Ream had four goals from Oct. 4-10 in three games. He had two goals in a 3-2 victory over Philipsburg-Osceola on Oct. 4. He followed with a goal against Clearfield in a 1-0 win on Oct. 6. Bald Eagle fell 3-1 to Penns Valley on Oct. 10, but Ream had a goal. He added eight points during that span.
Carson Nagle, Bald Eagle football: Nagle went 15-for-19 (78.9%) on passes for 297 passing yards, five touchdown passes and no interceptions in Bald Eagle’s 42-13 win over Philipsburg-Osceola on Oct. 7.
Cayden Merrill, Penns Valley boys soccer: Merrill scored two goals in Penns Valley’s 6-0 victory over Tyrone on Oct. 4. First, he scored on an assist from Kyle Long with 25:21 on the clock. He additionally scored on an assist from Ethan Narber at the 54:16 mark.
Finn Furmanek, State College football: Furmanek went 5-for-8 (62.5%) on passes for 219 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, to go with eight carries for 81 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in State College’s 49-20 victory over Carlisle on Oct. 7.
Nick Sloff, State College cross country: Sloff finished first with a time of 16:22.6 in State College’s Oct. 10 tri-meet with Penns Valley and Altoona. State College defeated Penns Valley 15-50 and Altoona 15-50 at Circleville Park.
Ty Watson, Penns Valley football: Watson had six carries for 160 rushing yards and three touchdown receptions in Penns Valley’s 48-7 win over Conemaugh Valley on Oct. 7. He added one reception for 33 receiving yards in the game as well. He took second place in the poll with 36% of the vote (10,678 votes).
