Poll results: Bald Eagle Area football player selected as CDT Boys Athlete of the Week
A Bald Eagle Area football player has won the Centre Daily Times high school boys athlete of the week poll, as selected by readers of CentreDaily.com.
Kieran Jodon usually lines up at offensive tackle for the Eagles. In a 35-7 victory over Wellsboro on Oct. 21, however, he was deployed as a quarterback. He took a direct snap and plowed into the end zone for a touchdown. He also protected quarterback Carson Nagle, who went 15-for-20 (75%) for 203 yards and three touchdown passes and paved the way for running back Trey Greene, who had nine carries for 100 rushing yards.
Jodon won the poll with 56% of the vote (5,550 votes).
Here were the other nominees for the week of Oct. 18-25:
Carson Long, Philipsburg-Osceola football: Long scored one goal in a P-O’s 4-1 loss to Bellefonte on Oct. 18. The sophomore followed up by scoring his 20th goal of the season against Hollidaysburg on Oct. 20 to finish the year. He went 8-for-8 on extra points (a P-O record) in his school’s 64-7 victory over Montgomery on Oct. 21.
Long took second place in the poll, with 32% of the vote (3,164 votes).
Finn Furmanek, State College football: The senior quarterback notched another strong performance on the year in a 48-31 victory over Cumberland Valley on Oct. 21. Furmanek went 16-for-21 (76.2%) on passes for 264 yards, three touchdown passes and one interception. He added a team-high 158 yards on the ground, with his longest rush coming on an 88-yard touchdown.
Tim Peters, Saint Joseph’s Catholic golf: Peters finished off his high school golf career by shooting +13 at the PIAA Class AA boys championship to finish tied for 22nd. He shot an 83 (par 72) on Oct. 17 and followed with a 74 on Oct. 18.
Ty Watson, Penns Valley football: Watson continued his record-breaking season with massive stats on the ground in a 56-0 win over Midd-West on Oct. 21. He had 26 carries for 196 yards and three touchdowns. He added two tackles for loss on defense.
The poll ended at noon Saturday. To be clear, this poll is not scientific and just for fun. In fact, we invite you to vote as many times as you want. The next poll will be published at CentreDaily.com on Tuesday.
