Poll results: Bellefonte basketball player selected as CDT Girls Athlete of the Week

A Bellefonte basketball player is the girls athlete of the week for Jan. 10-16, as selected by readers of CentreDaily.com.

Taylor Brown scored a game-high 17 points in Bellefonte’s 59-32 victory over Philipsburg-Osceola on Jan. 10. It was the first win of the season for the Lady Raiders. She came in top place in the poll, with 44% of the vote (7,515 votes).

The poll had nearly 17,000 total votes. Below were the other nominees.

Ann-Marie McMurtrie, Penns Valley girls basketball: McMurtrie began the week with 12 points in a 55-28 loss to Hollidaysburg on Jan. 10. She followed up with a game-high 24 points in a 58-46 win against Clearfield on Jan. 13. McMurtrie also had 14 points in a 46-39 loss to Huntingdon on Jan. 16.

Aubrey Yartz, Saint Joseph’s Catholic girls basketball: Yartz was fifth in the Tri Valley Athletic Association in points per game with 11.5, fourth in total rebounds with 61 and second in total blocked shots with 18.

Jade Castro and Molly Workman, State College swimming: The duo won two events in State’s College’s 115-71 win over Hershey on Jan. 12. Both went on tow in two events in their team’s 207-109 victory against Williamsport on Jan. 14. They took second place in the poll, with 34% of the vote (5,825 votes).

Jordyn Steindl, State College girls basketball: Steindl was the sixth-leading scorer in the Mid-Penn conference, averaging 14.2 points per game on Jan. 11.

Kiaha McCool, Bellefonte swimming: McCool finished first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:12.07 in Bellefonte’s 49-44 victory over Central Cambria and a 72-18 victory over Penns Valley on Jan. 10. Katelyn Packer, Avah Colm, Addie Pringle and McCool won the 200-yard freestlye relay and McCool capped off her team’s win with a time of 0:59.55 in the 100-yard backstroke for a win.

Khendyl Sharrer, Philipsburg-Osceola girls basketball: Sharrer had a team-high 14 points, 12 rebounds and seven steals in P-O’s 59-32 loss to Bellefonte on Jan. 10. She followed with four points, nine rebounds, two assists and five steals against Hollidaysburg in a 62-13 loss on Jan. 13. Sharrer completed another strong defensive performance in the Lady Mounties’ 29-25 loss to East Juniata, scoring three points, while grabbing 12 rebounds with one assist and six steals.

Margaret Delaney, Penns Valley swimming: The Penns Valley senior finished with a time of 1:09.05 in the 100-yard backstroke on Jan. 10 in a meet with Bellefonte and Central Cambria.
