Poll results: Bald Eagle Area basketball player selected as CDT Boys Athlete of the Week
A Bald Eagle Area basketball player is the boys athlete of the week for Jan. 16-22, as selected by readers of CentreDaily.com.
Kahale Burns scored a team-high 14 points on Jan. 17 in a 56-37 loss to Bellefonte. He had 49% of the vote in the poll (3,060 votes).
Here were the other nominees:
Braeden Shrewsberry, State College boys basketball: Shrewsberry had a game-high 30 points to go with one rebound, four assists and two steals in a 55-38 win over Central Dauphin on Jan. 17.
Caleb Close, Bald Eagle wrestling: Close (172) pinned Bellefonte’s Grady Garrison in 1:34 and followed up by defeating No. 2 seed, Jersey Shore’s Tyler Bauder, for the Big 7 Conference championship on Jan. 21.
Charlie Yartz, Saint Joseph’s boys basketball: Yartz had 23 points, six rebounds and six assists against Millersburg on Jan. 16 in a 73-65 win. He went on to have 22 points, four rebounds and three assists in Saint Joe’s 71-56 loss to Greenwood on Jan. 19.
Coen Bainey, Bald Eagle wrestling: Bainey (127) wrestled in two matches in the Big 7 Conference tournament on Jan. 21, winning in just over 1.5 minutes that were completed with pins.
Jackson Romig, Penns Valley boys basketball: Romig had nine points in Penns Valley’s 57-30 win over Bellwood-Antis on Jan. 16. He went on to score 24 points in the Rams’ 45-42 victory over Huntingdon on Jan. 17. He followed up with four points in Penns Valley’s 55-45 loss to Tyrone on Jan. 20.
Jacob McConnell, Bellefonte boys basketball: Bellefonte won 56-37 over Bald Eagle on Jan. 17 and McConnell scored a game-high 16 points. He came in second in the poll, with 40% of the votes (2,490 votes).
Michael Lower, Saint Joseph’s boys basketball: Lower had a game-high 27 points to go with four rebounds and two assists in Saint Joseph’s 73-65 victory over Millersburg on Jan. 16. He also had 15 points, five rebounds and an assist in Saint Joe’s 71-56 loss to Greenwood on Jan. 19.
Nick Pavlechko, State College wrestling: Pavlechko (285) won the Big 7 Conference wrestling tournament. He began the day by defeating Jersey Shore’s Preston Spontarelli in 1:14 and followed with an 11-second victory against Altoona’s Hayden Speece on Jan. 21.
