Poll results: Saint Joseph’s basketball player selected as CDT Girls Athlete of the Week
After a close round of voting and more than 29,000 votes, a Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy basketball player is the girls athlete of the week for Feb. 6-12, as selected by readers of CentreDaily.com.
Aubrey Yartz had 17 points in a 35-27 loss to Philipsburg-Osceola on Feb. 9. She took 44% of the votes in the poll, 12,854 votes.
Here were the other nominees:
Bellefonte cheerleading: The squad finished 18th in nationals over the Feb. 11-12 weekend.
Emily Gustkey, Philipsburg-Osceola girls basketball: Gustkey had a team-high 17 points in P-O’s 35-27 win over Saint Joseph’s Catholic on Feb. 9. She added eight rebounds and six steals in the game.
Kiaha McCool, Bellefonte girls swimming: McCool finished with a time of 1:57.08 in the women’s 200-yard freestyle in the Mark Hess Invite on Feb. 11, placing second.
Lily Warlow, Philipsburg-Osceola girls basketball: While Warlow had just one point in a game against Saint Joe’s on Feb. 9, the sophomore had a strong performance on the defensive end of the floor. She had five rebounds, an assist and 10 steals, resulting in a 35-27 win. She came in a close second in the poll, with 44% of the vote — 12,704 votes.
State College girls swimming: State College took home six gold, two silver and two bronze in the Mid-Penn Conference Championships on Feb. 6-11. The Lady Little Lions took home the championship with Jade Castro and Molly Workman finishing first and second-place respectively, winning two gold medals each.
