Poll results: Philipsburg-Osceola multi-sport athlete selected as CDT Athlete of the Week
The readers of CentreDaily.com have selected this week’s boys’ athlete of the week.
Carson Long won the poll for the week of Aug. 28-Sept. 3 for his performance with Philipsburg-Osceola boys’ soccer and football.
Long helped lead the boys’ soccer team to victory over Clearfield and Bald Eagle. He netted two goals against the former and four against the latter. He then added a 30-yard field goal for the football team when it took on Penn Cambria.
He finished with 47% of the poll, with 1,022 votes.
Here were the other nominees.
Isaak Bloom, Bellefonte golf: Bellefonte golf was led by Isaak Bloom during the week against Mifflin County and at the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference match. Bloom went 2-0 in match play against Mifflin County and shot a 74 at the LHAC match at Huntingdon Country Club to earn medalist honors at both.
Bloom finished second in the poll with 25% of the vote and 540 votes.
Carson Nagle, Bald Eagle football: Bald Eagle football dominated on its way to a 35-0 victory over Central Cambria. Carson Nagle led the way as the team’s quarterback, racking up 220 yards through the air to go with five passing touchdown. He did that while playing just over one half of football after the team’s backups came in following the first two drives of the third quarter.
Ty Salazer, State College football: State High football came up just short in its comeback attempt against Downingtown East Friday night, but Ty Salazer did everything he could to bring them the whole way back. Salazer had 13 catches for 229 yards and three touchdowns in the game to lead the way for the Little Lions.
Ty Watson, Penns Valley football: Penns Valley football pushed its record to 2-0 after a win this week over Bedford on the back of Ty Watson’s performance. Watson carried the ball 34 times in the game for 219 yards and two touchdowns in the team’s 27-13 win.
For the CDT’s Athlete of the Week polls this season, we will take nominations from all six county athletic departments for both a boys’ and girls’ athlete of the week. Voting for this poll ended Sunday. As a reminder, the poll is not scientific and just for fun. In fact, we invite you to vote as many times as you want. Look for future polls at CentreDaily.com.
