Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy junior Madison Koshko wins individual state title in golf

Centre County has a state golf champion.

Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy’s Madison Koshko won the PIAA Class 2A State Championship Tuesday after going under par in her second round. She finished 4-under-par over two rounds, clearing second place by two strokes.

The championship was held at Penn State’s Blue Course over two rounds on Monday and Tuesday.

Koshko, who led after the first round after shooting a 73 on the par-72 course, fired a 67 in the second round. She was one of only three golfers to go under par in either round.

Her state title comes after she finished in fifth place as a sophomore in 2023 when the championship was held on the White Course. She shot matching 74s in both rounds to finish five strokes off the lead last year.

This year, she put together much better rounds.

While her first round saw many peaks and valleys — including an eagle and a double bogey — her second round was far more consistently dominant. The high school junior didn’t do worse than par on any hole on Tuesday and racked up five birdies across the 18 holes.
