Poll results: Saint Joseph’s girls basketball player named athlete of the week for Feb. 12-18
A Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy girls basketball player was the athlete of the week for Feb. 12-18, as selected by readers of CentreDaily.com.
Aubrey Yartz helped the Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy girls basketball team secure the TVAA girls basketball championship with a win over Upper Dauphin. Yartz had 10 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, six steals and three blocks in the victory. She now has nine double-doubles on the season to go with two triple-doubles.
Yartz took 77% of the vote with 6,429 votes.

Caleb Close, Bald Eagle boys wrestling: Bald Eagle boys wrestling’s Caleb Close is now a two-time District 6 Class AA wrestling champion after earning his second this season, winning it at 189 pounds. He was named the Outstanding Wrestler at the tournament after knocking off the top-ranked wrestler at his weight class in the state. Close is committed to American University.
Colten Shunk, Penns Valley boys wrestling: Penns Valley boys wrestling’s Colten Shunk finished second at the PIAA District 6 AA wrestling tournament at 133 pounds. Shunk is 27-7 on the year and second in Centre County in technical falls with six. His only loss at districts came in the finals to Penn State signee Mason Gibson.
Nick Pavlechko, State College boys wrestling: State College boys wrestling’s Nick Pavlechko won a District 6 title at heavyweight while also earning his 100th career victory in the championship match. Pavlechko, a senior, is committed to Indiana University.
Sanai Abdullah, State College girls track and field: State College girls track and field’s Sanai Abdullah qualified for the PTFCA State Championship with a personal best in the long jump, which ranked her eighth in the state in the event. It also put her at No. 6 on the all-time leaderboard at State High in the long jump at 18 feet.
