Athletes of the Week

Poll results: Bald Eagle Area girls wrestler named athlete of the week for Feb. 19-25

A Bald Eagle Area wrestler who has been making history was the girls athlete of the week for Feb. 19-25, as selected by readers of CentreDaily.com.

Bald Eagle Area’s Angelina Grieb won the first girls district wrestling title in school history. Grieb, who will be attending Penn State-Altoona and be a part of the women’s wrestling team, won the district title after coming back from a torn ACL she suffered last spring.

Grieb, who will compete this weekend at the PIAA Championships in Hershey, took 40% of the votes in the poll, with 6,308 votes.

Below is a look at the other nominees:

Anna Lackey, State College girls wrestling: State College’s Anna Lackey became the first girls wrestler in State College history to wrestle in a regional title match, and she will compete in the state championships in Hershey.

Naomi Crispin, Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy girls basketball: Naomi Crispin led Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy girls basketball to a 68-18 win in the district quarterfinal. She tallied 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists and a steal in the win over Ferndale. She also added 20 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals in a semifinal loss to Williamsburg.

Mila Klena, Penns Valley girls swimming: Penns Valley’s Mila Klena earned a gold medal at the District 6 Class 2A Swimming Championships, winning the 100 breaststroke. Klena also won the silver medal in the 200 individual medley at the event.

With 4,240 votes, she came in second in the poll.

Bellefonte girls swim team: The Bellefonte girls swim team won its fourth straight District 6 title. The team — made up of Sydney Fetters, Sarah Litten, Kiaha McCool, Ashley Moretz, Katelyn Packer and Adalie Pringle — won the title by 60.5 points over second-place Hollidaysburg.

For the CDT’s Athlete of the Week polls this season, we will take nominations from all six county athletic departments for athlete of the week. Voting for this poll ended Sunday. As a reminder, the poll is not scientific and just for fun. In fact, we invite you to vote as many times as you want. Look for future polls at CentreDaily.com.
