Delivery truck fire reported in College Township
A fire claimed another vehicle Monday in Centre County when a delivery truck went up in flames.
Steve and Judy Copely, of Balmoral Circle in College Township, said they were expecting a refrigerator delivery at about 8 a.m. When the truck arrived, delivery workers had managed to get their fridge unloaded from the truck when something went wrong.
“The one came running in the house and said to call someone, the truck was on fire,” Judy Copely said. “You could see smoke coming from the front of the truck.”
By the time Boalsburg and Alpha fire departments arrived, the truck cab was fully engulfed. The Copelys said they feared the fire would spread to a nearby tree, but the fire remained contained.
One worker was reportedly injured when he attempted to retrieve the fire extinguisher from the vehicle, Judy Copely said. Centre LifeLink EMS responded to the scene.
“I don’t think we’ll be taking the fridge,” Steve Copely said.
Alpha Assistant Fire Chief Jason Troup confirmed one of the delivery drivers had suffered some burns on his arm. He added that the incident was still under investigation and a fire marshal would be checking the vehicle.
The vehicle was towed from the scene after fire crews wrapped up, he said.
