Citing a revenue decline due to COVID-19, another Nittany Mall store is set to close

The Nittany Mall is set to lose another storefront, following a closing announcement from Bradley’s Book Outlet.

Bradley’s Book Outlet, a family-owned chain, announced Monday that all of its stores will be closing, citing a decline in revenue amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Allegheny County-based discount book store includes eight store locations throughout Pennsylvania. It first opened in 1993.

“The past couple of years have been a struggle with the stores overall not producing a profit,” owner Mike Paper said in a statement. “I was OK with that for several reasons. First and foremost, it kept the jobs of the people I admire and respect, which is what makes this such a difficult decision. Due to the virus and the viability of many of our malls, we have reached a point where the stores are losing money and I don’t see a path forward for a turnaround.”

A liquidation sale will begin Friday.

Some stores remain profitable, and Paper said he is entertaining all offers to ensure employees can keep their jobs.
