We asked which Centre County restaurant you miss the most, and the results are in
State College’s Home D Pizzeria has been closed for two years, but it certainly hasn’t been forgotten by CDT readers. Home D received the most votes in our poll that asked readers to choose the Centre County business they missed the most.
Home D was located on South Atherton Street and was known for its patio, pizza menu and as a place to watch games. The restaurant’s Bellefonte location, Robin Hood Brewing Company, continues to operate.
The former Home D building is now a Verilife medical marijuana dispensary.
Almost 800 votes were cast in the nonscientific poll, which ran April 12-17. The other top finishers were Herwig’s Austrian Bistro, Spats Cafe and Speakeasy (which was inadvertently listed twice) and Baby’s Burgers and Shakes.
Readers also submitted a few memorable businesses of their own, including Mario’s Italian Restaurant. A reader said it was one of her favorite places to eat when she moved to the area, and she was very disappointed when it closed. Another gave a shoutout to Zola and Golden Wok.
Of the 14 restaurants listed in the poll, six received at least 10% of the vote. They were:
- Home D, which received 136 votes out of the 766 that were cast overall (18%)
- Herwig’s Austrian Bistro: 118 votes (15%)
- Spats Cafe and Speakeasy: 95 votes (12%)
- Baby’s Burgers and Shakes: 92 votes (12%)
- Ye Olde College Diner: 83 votes (11%)
- Mad Mex: 80 votes (10%)
