Township police were dispatched at roughly 10:48 p.m. Friday to the 200 block of Water Street in Pine Grove Mills. There, according to the preliminary investigation, the driver failed to navigate a sharp turn on Pine Grove Mountain as her vehicle left the roadway, ultimately traveling 150 feet before resting in a drainage ditch.
The driver, a 78-year-old woman, was flown by medical helicopter to the hospital in Williamsport. She was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries early Saturday morning despite life-saving efforts, Ferguson Township police wrote in a statement.
There were no other occupants in the vehicle, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The Ferguson Township Police Department and the Centre County Crash Reconstruction Team are still investigating the incident. Township police received assistance at the scene from Centre LifeLink EMS and State College’s Alpha Fire Company.
