Summer fests return

Here’s what you need to know for the first in-person Arts Fest and People’s Choice Festival in two years.

The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts is back with a packed schedule of performances after a two-year absence.

Entertainment venues are scattered around downtown State College and on Penn State’s campus. Wristbands are required for admission to some performances. They are available for $15 at locations around State College. Find a full list at arts-festival.com/button.

Here’s a look at what each day has to offer.

JULY 14 UPDATE: The Raleigh Ringers performance on July 16 has been canceled. See the schedule below for more information.

Wednesday, July 13

The festival opens with a focus on young artists and performers on Children and Youth Day. The Sidewalk Sale, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., highlights the creativity of artists ages 8-18. The full entertainment schedule for Wednesday is below.

10-11 a.m.: State College Suzuki Program of the Music Academy, Allen Street Stage

11 a.m.-noon: The Music Academy, Allen Street Stage

noon-12:30 p.m.: Nittany Dreamers, Festival Shell Stage

12:30-1 p.m.: Hot Styles Dance Company, Allen Street Stage

1-2 p.m.: Central Pennsylvania Dance Workshop, Festival Shell Stage

2-3 p.m.: Happy Valley Improv youth program, Allen Street Stage

2:30-3:30 p.m.: Centre Dance Studio, Festival Shell Stage

4-4:30 p.m.: Children and Youth Day Grand Procession, starts at Old Main lawn; distribution of pieces starts at 3:15.

6-7:30 p.m.: Centred Outdoors Downtown Art Walk, starts at 3 Dots, 137 E. Beaver Ave.

7:30-8:30 p.m.: Pat Farrell Community Sing Along, State College Presbyterian Church, 132 W. Beaver Ave.

Thursday, July 14

The Sidewalk Sale and Exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday’s schedule features some familiar faces on the central Pennsylvania music scene and opens with a festival newcomer.

11 a.m.-noon: The Quasi Quintet, Allen Street Stage

1-2 p.m.: Tussey Mountain Moonshiners, Allen Street Stage

3-4 p.m.: Jay Vonada Quartet, Allen Street Stage

4-5:30 p.m.: Keystone Big Band, Festival Shell Stage

5-6 p.m.: Revamped, Allen Street Stage

6:30-7:30 p.m.: Eric Ian Farmer, Festival Shell Stage

6:30-8 p.m.: Mark DeRose and the Dreadnoughts, Sidney Friedman Park

7-8 p.m.: The JR Mangan Band with Veronica Auger, Allen Street Stage

8:30-10 p.m.: BC Blue, Festival Shell Stage

8:30-10 p.m.: The Kinsey Sicks, The State Theatre, 130 W. College Ave.; tickets are required

Friday, July 15

The Sidewalk Sale and Exhibition continues from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The day’s schedule includes yoga, theater, improv and lots of music.

9-10 a.m.: Yoga class with Cristy Marquez, Sidney Friedman Park. Bring a yoga mat and register at yogalabstudio.com (drop-ins welcome)

11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Below Centre, Allen Street Stage

1:30-2:30 p.m.: Miss Melanie, Allen Street Stage

2-3 p.m.: State High Thespians perform “The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig,” State College Municipal Building Community Room, 243 S. Allen St. A wristband is required for this performance

2:30-3:30 p.m.: Jim Colbert, Willard Building Plaza

3-4 p.m.: Doug Irwin and Bill Ritzman, State College Municipal Building Plaza

The Sidewalk Sale and Exhibition runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., while BookFest PA returns to Schlow Centre Region Library’s parking lot from 10 a.m to 4 p.m.

8-10 p.m.: The Raleigh Ringers, Penn State School of Music Recital Hall. A wristband is required for this performance CANCELED (On July 14, festival organizers said the handbell choir’s performance has been canceled due to an outbreak of COVID-19 in the group.)

9-10 p.m.: Bill Carter and the Presbybop Quartet, State College Presbyterian Church. A wristband is required for this performance

9:30-11 p.m.: Velveeta, Festival Shell Stage

9:30-11 p.m.: Across the Pond, Sidney Friedman Park
