Top 10 baby names of 2022: The most popular girls and boys names in Centre County
The most popular baby names this year at Mount Nittany Medical Center largely didn’t buck national trends, though there were some newcomers and a new No. 1 for boys and girls.
Theodore took the top spot for boys. The name leapfrogged Liam, which fell to No. 2. Benjamin, David and Andrew rounded out the top 5.
Neither Owen, Lincoln, Oliver nor Colton — four of the five most popular boy names at the hospital last year — cracked the top 10 this year.
Ellie took the crown as the No. 1 name for girls, moving up from No. 4 last year. Emma, Harper and Olivia — all top names from last year — remained popular. Scarlett was fifth.
There were 1,271 babies born at the hospital as of Dec. 20, spokeswoman Tania Luciow wrote in an email. The hospital averaged 1,284 births annually over the past five years.
Below are the top 10 names for boys and girls. The national popularity of the name in 2021 — as calculated by the Social Security Administration — is in parenthesis.
