Woman flown to hospital, another injured in Milesburg crash on state Route 220
A woman was flown to a hospital, another person was injured and a highway was temporarily closed Friday following a two-vehicle crash in Milesburg.
The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. Friday on the 300 block of South Eagle Valley Road, which also doubles as state Route 220. An SUV was seen at the bottom of an embankment, while a sedan had front- and rear-end damage.
It was not clear how the crash occurred. State police at Rockview did not take questions at the scene, and an email left with a spokesperson was not immediately returned.
Geisinger Life Flight took off from the highway about 3:30 p.m. Citizen’s Hook & Ladder Assistant Chief Jonathan McClure said the woman who was loaded into the helicopter was seriously injured. She was the passenger in the SUV, he said.
The driver of the SUV was not injured, McClure said. In the sedan, he said only one minor injury was reported.
Bald Eagle Area School District Superintendent Chris Santini said school buses at the Wingate campus were delayed about 25 minutes until the highway began to reopen.
South Eagle Valley Road reopened about 4:15 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation’s traveler information service, 511PA.com.
Among those to respond included Bellefonte EMS, Centre LifeLink EMS, Citizen’s Hook & Ladder, Life Flight, Logan Fire Co., Mount Nittany EMS, Pleasant Gap EMS, Undine Fire Co. and state police at Rockview.
It was at least the third serious crash since Christmas on Eagle Valley Road.
Three members of a Lock Haven family died and two others were seriously injured in a Christmas Day crash, which occurred on North Eagle Valley Road near Swartz Hollow Road in Howard Township.
Two others were seriously injured at the end of February in a crash at the intersection of South Eagle Valley Road and the Interstate 80 eastbound on-ramp in Boggs Township.
