Bellefonte’s first medical marijuana dispensary set to open in January. Here’s what to know
One of Bellefonte’s first new business openings of 2025 is set to be a medical marijuana dispensary, joining a growing number of such businesses across Centre County.
While there are four medical marijuana dispensaries in the county, Terrapin plans to open the first in Bellefonte, called Terrapin Care Station, at 205 Park Place, Suite 1 — the former URBN Flavourhaus restaurant location. The grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony are set for 11 a.m. Jan. 9, and a soft opening will take place Monday.
The Bellefonte location will be the company’s first care station in Pennsylvania, with plans for others in Lewisburg and Lock Haven. Hours for the Bellefonte dispensary will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
The company got its start in 2009 in Boulder, Colo., and sells products in more than 170 dispensaries across Pennsylvania, including the four in the State College area — the AYR, Curaleaf, Verilife and Vytal Options dispensaries.
Borough manager Ralph Stewart said he hopes it will be a positive addition to a thriving town. Terrapin’s CEO, Chris Woods, is a Penn State graduate and Pennsylvania native.
“From what we understand, the owners are good, community-minded people,” Stewart wrote in an email to the CDT. “We anticipate them to be good neighbors here in Bellefonte.”
The dispensary will offer a range of different Terrapin products to customers, including vapes, concentrates, medical remedies and different strains of cannabis.
A drive-thru window will also be made available to customers.
In addition to the dispensary, the new year will also bring at least two more business openings to Bellefonte: the Courthouse Pub, a restaurant marriage of Brother’s N.Y. Style Pizza and Robin Hood Brewing Co., will open soon at the corner of North Allegheny and East High streets, and the Shaky Hands Coffee Shop, Bees Knees Coffee’s first sit-down location, is set to open sometime in March at 106 W. Bishop St.
More information about Terrapin, its history and its products can be found on the cannabis company’s website.
