Penn State’s University Park campus and all Centre County school districts will be closed Monday as a winter storm hits the region.

Penn State announced Sunday afternoon that all classes, activities and work is canceled from 5 a.m. Monday through 5 a.m. Tuesday. Only employees who perform essential services should report to work, the university said in a news release.

The State College and Philipsburg-area school districts also announced Sunday that classes are canceled Monday due to inclement weather. The weekend’s snow will close all school buildings and district offices for the day, both districts said.

The Centre Area Transportation Authority has suspended all operations Sunday, while all flights from State College were canceled, too. Several health care facilities and government offices have also closed.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Centre County and the surrounding area through 1 p.m. Monday. According to the agency, more than 8 inches of snow had fallen in the State College area by noon Sunday.
