Lucky lottery player wins life-changing prize from $20 scratch-off game in Florida
A lucky player won a huge prize from a scratch-off game in Florida, lottery officials said.
Derinda Main, 67, of Brandon, purchased a $20 ticket from the $5,000,000 Crossword Cash scratch-off game — and turned it into a $1 million win, the Florida Lottery announced in a Dec. 12 news release.
Lottery officials said Main bought the winning ticket from a grocery store in Seffner, about a 15-mile drive east from Tampa.
She chose to take her winnings home as a one-time payment of $652,665.60, the release said.
Two out of four top prizes of $5 million remain, and three out of 12 $1 million prizes remain, lottery officials said.
The $5,000,000 Crossword Cash game — which launched in August 2023 — also features prizes ranging from $20 to $100,000. The overall odds of winning are 1 in 2.9.
