Get ready to spring ahead — daylight saving time begins soon in Pennsylvania
Be prepared to turn your clocks forward this weekend.
Daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8, when Pennsylvanians and most other Americans “spring forward” and move their clocks ahead one hour. People who work or attend church Sunday may lose some sleep.
The shift means later sunsets and darker mornings, at least for a little while, a tradeoff that may be noticeable for early risers. Students waiting for school buses and commuters heading to work early in the morning will lose some of the sunlight they had slowly gained over the winter.
Most internet-connected devices change their clocks automatically, so there is likely no need to update them. Other household items, like your coffee pot or microwave, might need adjusting, however.
Barring action from Congress or the Pennsylvania legislature — where bills to lock the clock have been filed as recently as last year, yet repeatedly stall — daylight saving time will end and way-too-early sunsets will begin Sunday, Nov. 1.
Spring officially begins Friday, March 20, the March equinox.
