Penn State had an offensive tackle go late in the 2022 NFL Draft Saturday evening. Left tackle Rasheed Walker was taken by the Green Bay Packers with the No. 249 overall pick and the 28th pick of the seventh round.
Walker is the seventh Nittany Lion to go in the 2022 NFL Draft — joining Jahan Dotson, Arnold Ebiketie, Jaquan Brisker, Brandon Smith, Jordan Stout and Tariq Castro-Fields — and the fourth on the third day, joining Smith, Stout and Castro-Fields.
The former Penn State left tackle started 32 games at the position for the Nittany Lions, but missed the final three games of his career with a meniscus injury in his knee.
Despite the injury, Walker was named honorable mention All-Big Ten after the 2021 season, just as he was following the 2020 season, and was a captain in his final year with the Nittany Lions. His 32 starts came consecutively and accounted for the majority of the 36 games he played in during his four-year career.
He measured in at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine at 6-foot-6, 313 pounds but did not work out as he recovered from the injury.
An anonymous NFL scout told the Centre Daily Times that the pre-draft process, along with a mixed bag on film, created volatility in where Walker would ultimately end up.
“He is talented,” the scout said. “But he has had no Pro Day, because of the meniscus surgery that he had. He hasn’t really worked out for anybody. People are probably gonna question what he is. His tape is up and down. “
