Penn State football’s new coach officially arrived in Happy Valley Sunday, where more than 100 fans were waiting to welcome him.

Matt Campbell, who coached at Iowa State for the past 10 seasons, is expected to be formally introduced Monday, pending approval by the university’s board of trustees. He arrived at State College Regional Airport late Sunday afternoon, where a large crowd — a mix of students and community members — were waiting.

The crowd erupted in cheers as Campbell stepped off the plane. Athletic director Pat Kraft, who has faced scrutiny throughout the at-times chaotic 54-day hiring process, was among the first to greet Campbell and his family.

Campbell then made his way to the fans waiting outside the airport and greeted many through the fence.
