Here’s what happened in Centre County high school sports from May 12-15.

baseball

Saint Joe’s: Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy lost 10-0 to Greenwood High School on Wednesday.

State College: State College lost 3-2 to Cedar Cliff on Thursday. The game was tied 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth, when Cedar Cliff scored the winning run on a walk. Matt Lingenfelter, Jack Wunz, Drew Moerschbacher, Ethan Schimony and Garret Holzapfel each had a hit, while Holzapfel had a game-high two RBIs. Lingenfelter took the loss for the Little Lions, surrendering one run on two hits over one inning.

BEA: Bald Eagle Area beat Huntingdon 11-1 in five innings on Thursday to improve to 12-5. Noah Williamson went 2-for-3, including a double, and had three RBIs, Kyler Cunningham had a double and an RBI, and McGwire Heverly had two doubles and two RBIs. Wyatt McClain earned the win, surrendering two hits, striking out two and walking two.

Bellefonte: Bellefonte lost two games to none (14-6, 5-2) to Tyrone in a doubleheader on Thursday. Bellefonte scored first in Game 1, when Max Rogers hit a sac fly to score two in the bottom of the first. But the Red Raiders were unable to keep up with Tyrone’s offense, getting out-hit 17-12. Nick Capparelle went 3-for-5 for the Red Raiders, while Rogers was 1-for-3 with a team-high three RBIs. Seth Shuey took the loss, allowing nine hits and eight runs while striking out two. The two teams were tied at 2 at the top of the fifth in Game 2, but three runs in the bottom of the inning gave the Golden Eagles the victory. Capparelle went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Derek Fravel and Shuey each went 2-for-3. Fravel took the loss, allowing six hits and five runs over six innings, striking out eight.

Penns Valley: Penns Valley lost 4-0 to Clearfield on Thursday. Maclain Welshans led the offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

P-O: Philipsburg-Osceola lost 8-7 to Central on Thursday. P-O had a 7-5 lead heading into the seventh inning, but Central scored three wins in the top of the seventh for the win. Jeremy Whitehead went 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and two runs.

Penns Valley: Penns Valley lost 5-0 to Mifflinburg on Friday to fall to 5-11. Aidan Brinker and Dakota Brodzina both singled.

Bellefonte: Bellefonte beat Jersey Shore 8-7 on Friday. The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the sixth when Bellefonte scored on on an error in the bottom of the sixth. Each team had eight hits. Triston Heckman went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Gavin Fravel was credited with the win, surrendering seven runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking none.

P-O: Philipsburg-Osceola lost 2-0 to Hollidaysburg on Friday. Ryan Whitehead was credited with the loss, striking out nine batters and allowing one walk and one earned run over six innings. The Mounties tallied three hits.

lacrosse

State College girls: State College beat Carlisle 9-6 on Wednesday. Lizzie Paterno scored three goals and had one assist, while Phebe Herlocher had three goals to lead the offense.

State College girls: State College lost 9-8 to Hershey on Friday in the Mid Penn Championship, falling to 14-2 overall. Top scorers for the Little Lions were Kaylee Schaeffer Hood with two goals and one assist, Sydney O’Donnell had two goals and four draw controls, and Phebe Herlocher had two goals. Grace Jones had five saves.

State College boys: State College beat Carlisle 8-4 on Wednesday.

Softball

Saint Joe’s: Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy lost 16-5 on Wednesday to Moshannon Valley.

State College: State College beat Red Land 12-2 on Wednesday. The Little Lions racked up nine runs in the fifth inning to end the game early. Logan Soltis hit a three-run homer in the fifth, finishing the day with a game-high four RBIs. Olivia Herncane was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Tori Kroboth went 2-for-2. Zia Bodnar earned the win, surrendering three hits and two runs while striking out 12 and walking one over five innings of play.

Penns Valley: Penns Valley beat South Williamsport 20-3 in three innings on Thursday. The Rams had 12 hits in the game to South Williamsposrt’s three. Avery Dinges had a single, a double, three runs scored, three RBIs and two stolen bases. Kendra Bumgardner had a single, three runs scored, three RBIs and a stolen base, while Avelyn Van Heyst had two singles, two runs scored and three RBIs. Dinges was credited with the win, striking out three and walking one.

State College: State College beat Cedar Cliff 2-1 on Thursday. Zia Bodnar earned the win, surrendering one run on three hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out 10. Olivia Herncane and Carsyn Spencer each went 2-for-3.

P-O vs. BEA: Philipsburg-Osceola beat Bald Eagle Area 10-8 on Thursday, handing the Eagles their second loss of the season. The Mounties got out to an early 7-0 lead after two innings. The Eagles fought back, tying the game at seven in the fifth. With the game still tied after the seventh, the teams headed into extra innings. BEA took the lead in the top of the eighth, but P-O answered with a home run to tie the game. Autumn Ricketts then hit a two-run, walk-off homer in the ninth to give the Mounties the win.

Penns Valley: Penns Valley lost 8-3 to Clearfield on Friday. Clearfield pitcher Emma Hipps had 17 strikeouts, a walk and a hit batter. Allie O’Brien took the loss. O’Brien had a single, a run scored and a stolen base, while Avery Dinges and Kendra Bumgardner each had a single and a run scored, and Noelle Webb had a single and two RBIs.

Bellefonte: Bellefonte beat Tyrone 5-0 on Friday. Lexi Rogers pitched the shutout, allowing three hits and no runs over seven innings, striking out 10 and walking one. Lily Gardner and Addy Manning each had home runs for the Red Raiders. Gardner and Rogers were each 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI.

Track & field

State College boys: The State College boys’ track and field team took first place at the Mid Penn Championships on Saturday in Chambersburg with 123 points. Shippensburg came in second with 76.50. The Little Lions took first in five events. State College athletes finishing in the top three individually were: 100m finals: Eniayo Ogunranti (first in 11.00); Carson Franks (second in 11.09); 200m finals: Ogunranti (first in 21.96); 800m: Sean Adams (first in 1:55.73); 1,600m: Brady Bigger (second in 4:20.81); Trent Dinant (third in 4:28.26); 4x100m relay: State College (first in 42.62); 4x400m relay: State College (second in 3:23.39); high jump: Conrad Moore (first in 6-10); pole vault: Ian Dorefice (second in 15-00); shot put: Ben Spencer (second in 47-00.75).

State College girls: State College’s girls’ team tied with Carlisle for second at the Mid Penn Championships on Saturday in Chambersburg with 62 points. Cumberland Valley came in first with 102.5 points. The Little Lions took first place in three events. State College athletes finishing in the top three individually were: 800m: Grace Morningstar (second in 2:19.19); 1,600m: Marlee Kwasnica (first in 5:03.61); 3,200m: Jordan Reed (first in 11:10.74); Amy Devan (third in 11:44.83); long jump: Shannon Mullin (second in 18-00.50); triple jump: Mullin (first in 37-05..75).
