Lottery player nearly faints after big win in Virginia. ‘Christmas and birthday gift’
A lucky lottery player switched up her routine and scored big on a scratch-off game in Virginia, lottery officials said.
The Caroline County woman, who usually plays the Print ‘N Play Bingo game two or three times a week, tried a 50X the Money Scratcher game instead and won $200,000, the Virginia Lottery said in a Dec. 28 post on X, formerly Twitter.
She purchased her ticket from an Inn in Rappahannock Academy, about a 50-mile drive northeast from Richmond, and originally thought she’d won $20,000, lottery officials said.
When she went to share her good news with the inn’s owner, he pointed out that it was worth much more, the lottery said.
The 50X the Money game, which began in March 2022, has prizes ranging from $20 to $3 million, according to the lottery. The overall odds of winning are 1 in 3.03.
This win was extra special for the lucky player, who almost fainted after realizing she’d won on her late mother’s birthday and just a few days before her own birthday, lottery officials said.
“It’s a great Christmas and birthday gift all rolled into one,” the woman told lottery officials.
