Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts will have a slightly different setup this year thanks to ongoing construction on Penn State’s University Park campus.
Construction at the Sackett Building has closed access to areas on campus near the Pattee Mall and Old Main lawn. Part of the building was recently demolished as part of an overall $89.9 million project that is expected to last at least a couple more years.
“The construction definitely threw us a curveball,” Pamela Snyder Etters, executive director of the festival, said in an email. They’ve moved some artists to Pollock Road, which will be double lined with booths.
A map of the festival layout shows other booths on campus will be along Burrowes Road, from the Hosler Building to Steam Drive, the west sidewalks of the Old Main mall, from the Obelisk to Pollock Road, and both sides of Pollock Road from the Old Main mall to Burrowes Road.
“We will encourage visitors to use the walkway through the Hintz Alumni grounds, stopping to see the exhibits there, before hitting the mall or Burrowes on the other side,” Snyder Etters said.
In town, booths will be located on Allen Street from Highland Alley to Fairmount Avenue, on Fairmount Avenue from Allen Street to Fraser Street, and on Fraser Street from Fairmount Avenue to Foster Avenue.
The 58th annual event will run from July 9-13. A press release states about 150,000 people visit Arts Fest every summer, which features a sidewalk sale and exhibition, juried gallery exhibition, children and youth day, street painting, educational opportunities, music, dance and theatrical performances.
Children and youth day is 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. July 9. The sidewalk sale and exhibition is open 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. July 10-12, and 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. July 13.
